Submission grappling has garnered an eclectic combination of cultural influences from throughout the world. Today, it shares aspects of Greco and freestyle wrestling, nogi Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Russian Sambo, Catch Wrestling, and Pankration grappling. Strategy and style is very akin to BJJ, but is played with different posture, leverage, and grips due to the lack of wearing a kimono. Most submission tournaments held around the world will host both NoGi and Gi grappling divisions. The increased pace of NoGi is sure to present a refreshing challenge.
