Morgan Beverly

            Morgan Beverly was introduced to a healthy and active lifestyle at a young age, due to her parent’s strong influence on her. As a child, Morgan was active in local recreational and high school sports teams. At the age of 17, Morgan was introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and immediately fell in love with the sport. She has been actively competing in tournaments all over the country since her first year in the sport. Jiu Jitsu challenged her in ways no other sport could, not only physically, but mentally also.

             At age 20, Morgan decided to broaden her knowledge/skills in the fitness industry by becoming a NASM CPT and competing in NPC Bikini Shows. She developed a Youtube channel as a way to reach a larger audience and inspire others through her fitness/jiu jitsu journey. She has been working with people over the past couple of years, in hopes of influencing others to live healthier/more active lifestyles.

Kyle Huang

Rank: Purple Belt

DOB: 7/29/1995

Classes: Kids BJJ (Cubs)

            Kyle Huang moved from Fuzhou, China to the United States at the young age of 10. Due to his inability to communicate with other children his age, Kyle turned to martial arts as an outlet. He began doing Karate a couple of months after moving to Philadelphia and fell in love with the technique and discipline required in the sport. Although he enjoyed training karate, he wanted to expand his knowledge in the world of martial arts. Once he turned 11, Kyle began studying Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

            Kyle is now the age of 21, as a purple belt, and has been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for over a decade. Kyle aspires to compete on an international level and become a world champion in the years to come. He now shares his passion for Jiu Jitsu with children, as a Children’s instructor at Roots Athletics.

John Battle

Rank: Brown Belt

DOB: 3/2/1994

Classes: No Gi Submission Grappling 

            John Battle began playing team sports in High School, in order to stay active throughout the week. He was enrolled into his high school baseball and soccer team and quickly realized that neither were for him. John began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at the age of 15 and was immediately hooked to the sport. Since then, John has been an avid competitor in both Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Gi and No Gi Submission Grappling.

            John recently received his Brown Belt in January of 2016. He aspires to travel and compete as much as he can throughout his 20’s. John has already made a name for himself in the jiu jitsu community and has received many offers to compete in Professional and Invitation only tournaments. His young and ambitious attitude is one of the many reasons for his rising popularity in the sport. 

Judah Ciervo

Rank: Brown Belt

DOB: 2/28/1978

Classes: Thai Boxing

              Judah Ciervo’s practice of the martial arts began in 1994 when he received a copy of Bruce Lee’s Tao of Jeet Kune Do. Since then, Judah has been studying a wide variety of martial arts, where he’s been able to learn and share his knowledge with others. Judah has fought both nationally and internationally in Muay Thai and is part of the last generation of MMA fighters to have competed in Vale Tudo matches in the United States. Judah won his pro MMA debut April 2008 and made his pro Muay Thai debut January 2009.

              In 2002, Judah began his journey through No Gi Submission Grappling and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and is now at the rank of Brown Belt. Judah began teaching the Thai Boxing classes at Roots Athletics in 2015 and has become an integral part of this academy since.

Levi LaLonde

Rank: Black Belt

DOB: 12/6/1981

Classes: BJJ Gi

              Levi LaLonde was raised in a subsistence lifestyle in rural Alaska, and traveled the country on a quest to learn, train, and compete in Mixed Martial Arts. He began his journey in martial arts in his teenage years, and since then, he has spread his experience in the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and Canada as well. Having professional fight experience in MMA, Boxing, Muay Thai, and Grappling, Levi has trained with and been taught by the worlds best coaches and fighters over the past 10+ years. That experience has translated into a well-rounded, inspirational, and informative coach and instructor.

              Levi is now the head Brazilian Jiu Jitsu instructor and owner of Roots Athletics in Philadelphia, PA. His attention to detail and passion for martial arts is what makes him such a respected and knowledgeable coach and athlete in the sport. Levi has created a beautiful academy with a combination of modern martial arts and martial arts based fitness programs.
